The coin is the metaphor. The quantum algorithm uses qubits that are in superposition of 0 and 1 unless you look at it. Once you do, it instantly collapses to either 0 or 1.

A quantum algorithm computes all the inputs we provide at once. In one operation. A classical algorithm computes them sequentially.
